If you could not find an investment club in your area, I have to say I don't think you were looking hard enough.

by Jesse Davis

If you could not find an investment club in your area, I have to say I don’t think you were looking hard enough.

Recently somebody told me that they couldn’t find any investment clubs in Charleston, South Carolina. So I ran a search on Google and got several results. On the list of contacts there were two clubs in Charleston, some links to Web sites with several phone numbers. If I tried to call so many numbers, I would certainly find someone who would point me the right direction.

By the way, I know about Charleston because I went to high school in Dillon, SC. I will bet you any amount of money that in the city the size of Charleston there is at least one investment club or association.

Quite frankly, when you face a relatively simple problem like that, start with using Internet search. Now, you may not be into using the computer, but in our time not using the Internet would be quite unbelievable. All you need is to get a little fired up and more determined to find the answers.

One way that helped me develop that type of attitude, was telling myself that finding the answers to my questions or achieving my goals was the matter of life and death. When you can learn to put yourself in this kind of situation mentally, you will get anything done. Of course it is hard to imagine that someone is holding a gun to your head and gave you a time limit to come up with a solution of a problem, but if you look at the mental side of things you would admit this method of self-motivation could be quite effective.

Anyway, do not get discouraged by anything and be proactive! Look on the Internet, find any information that looks promising, get all available phone numbers and start calling people. Even if you don’t find exactly what you are looking for, you would still make useful contacts in the area and eventually achieve your goals.

Step One: Get to know your tools.

by Rashel Dan

Step One: Get to know your tools.

If you are to learn how to install ceramic tile flooring the right way, then you must start with having the right tools. You can buy most of the tools you’ll need for working on your floor tiling at your local hardware store or home center. For equipment that might be too expensive to purchase like a tile cutter, or hand held micro cutter, try your local home center or tool rental yard. They may have the tools you’ll need at affordable rental prices, or even at discount. And if you’re a newbie at tiling work, they may even help you with information. Here are most of the basic tools you will need for your tiling job:

a) Safety clothing and gear like a pair of safety glasses, heavy leather gloves, and long-sleeved work clothes. These are useful especially if your tiling work involves taking out the existing ceramic tiles. Broken shards and other debris from tearing out the ceramic tiles can cause nasty cuts.

b) Carpentry tools like a tape measure, a carpenter’s square and a bubble level.

c) A tile cutter (which you can rent), some tile spacers, a putty knife, a trowel (preferably, the notched kind), and a rubber grout float.

d) Mortar material for bonding your tiles to your subfloor surface, like a thin set mortar, or tile adhesive, tiling grout and sealant.

Step Two: Prepare your subfloor before installing your tiles.

The tiling starts at this point. It would be a great experience for you to learn how to install ceramic tile by learning about the type of floors you will be putting your tiles on. Always check for cracks and debris when If you’re working on a concrete subfloor. Make it is smooth and clean. Repair as many of the cracks as you can. If you see cracks that are too large to repair, replace the floor section where they are found with new concrete. For plywood subfloors, be sure that the wood is at least 1 and 1/8 inches thick and is supported by an equally strong underlayment. Otherwise, your ceramic tiles will dislodge easily, or worse, break and need replacing.

An existing ceramic tile floor may add another stage to your tiling job, and present something of a challenge for you. You’ll need to tear out the existing tiles. For starters, all you need to do is use a large flat-bladed chisel and a mallet, and just hammer away. Then, you’ll need to clean out the debris. If you to smoothen your subfloor — you may want to rent a sander to do the job. Be sure to keep yourself protected. Use heavy-duty leather work gloves, safety glasses, and long-sleeved work clothes.

Step Three: Measure and lay out your floor. To know where to start and how to install ceramic tile on your subfloor, begin by measuring the length and width of your floor. This will help you estimate the number of ceramic floor tiles you will need to purchase. Then, find the center point of your floor area. You Measure across floor area and mark the center. Do this in opposite direction and mark the center, as well. The intersection of the two lines is the center of the floor area where you can start your tiling work. To help with your tiling, run chalk lines over the intersection lines. These chalk lines will help you with how to install ceramic tile and help you keep your tiling straight and organized.

Step Four: Start work on your ceramic tile installation

The first tile should be positioned between the two lines made. Then, bond it to your subfloor by using a thin set mortar, or a tile adhesive of your choice. Using a notched trowel for applying the mortar is best on how to install ceramic tile. But you may actually use the more common trowel variety is you don’t have one. To secure the ceramic tile in its place, press down while twisting it back and forth till the tile no longer is set. If some of the mortar or adhesive oozes out, use your trowel (or a damp sponge) to scrape off the excess. Do this process over with the next tile, and so on and so forth, until you’ve finished your ceramic floor tiling.

Step Five: Finish your tiling job by putting in the tiling grout and sealant

It’s time to put the tiling grout in once the tiles have settled. Tiling grout is a material that you should know more about when you want to know how to install ceramic tile flooring. Grout is tiling material made cement, sand and water, and a little color. It is used to fill in gaps and seal in the spaces between tiles. Tiling grout comes in a wide variety of color tints that may be matched to your tile color. Use a rubber grout float and work the tiling grout into the gaps between the tiles. Use your grout float at an angle so that you can fill in the joint gap with as much tiling grout as possible.

Once you’re done with applying grout along the tile gaps, wipe off the excess grout with a damp sponge. Rinse the sponge frequently to get as much of the excess grout off, and keep each tile clean. You have the option of applying a sealant to the grout lines after they dry.

Make sure you allow some time for the grout to dry before you apply the sealant. These setting periods last overnight, at the very least, to twenty-four hours, at the most. Your sealant has dried, you are done! Congratulations! Now, you know how to install ceramic tile flooring.

I got a call from John, the president of our stock trading club. He wants to have an emergency meeting in the next day or so. He feels that he will find some solace with the other members of the club.

I’m not so sure. I think he will find misery loving company.

Sarah, the vice president of the club, has agreed to the meeting, but wasn’t that thrilled about it. Her approach is more common sense. Sell positions that have no promise, sit on the cash, and wait. Also, cut your losses. Pretty basic, but it needed to be stated, and she did in an email.

I received numerous emails from members of the online stock trading group saying that they can’t take John’s excitability, and that they wish Sarah was the president. They felt she had more of what it takes to be an online stock broker of sorts.

Maybe next time, I replied.

We had our meeting. This time it was not for breakfast. We met at the local bar, had some pizza and beer, and [spin}shed a few tears|cried in our stocks[/spin].
Nobody wanted to go around and admit to the percentage of de-clines over the last few weeks, so we tabled that plan.

We then did some role playing about what we would do if we were the Federal Reserve Chief or the Treasury Secretary.

The results of our exercise were to hopefully decide if they did make the right moves in government jumping into the markets body and soul.

Some concluded that it was the right move. Others said it wasn’t.

John, for his part, said it was the right thing to do. He is a veteran trader. Sarah said she would have let the market fall on its face and get back up, just like a kid learning to ride a bike or a horse. The fear had to be cleared out, she said.

We all agreed to meet again on Saturday morning, just to have a recap of the week’s events.

If you have already heard the term reverse mortgage, it still sounds a little odd. If this is the first time you are hearing the term, it will probably sound like some kind of shady deal. Reverse mortgages are becoming more popular these days, but are they scams or are they legitimate? Is it really possible to sell your house back to the bank and still retain the deed to it? Will the bank really pay YOU the mortgage payments? Let’s review what a reverse mortgage is so these questions can be answered.

The name is somewhat confusing. A reverse mortgage is a loan that is structured like a mortgage, with YOU as the lender and the BANK as the buyer. In the U.S., homeowners wanting to initiate a reverse mortgage must be at least 62 years old, and own all or most of their home. The senior citizen homeowner “sells” his or her house to the bank, in return for receiving periodic mortgage payments. Sometimes the payments can be structured as a lump sum, line of credit, or a combination of all three.

So what are the benefits to a reverse mortgage? First it provides a constant and dependable stream of retirement income. Many retirement plans such as 401(K) or Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) generally increase in value, but are still tied to stock market interest rates. The amount of money they provide during retirement can vary. Social Security, Medicare, and other U.S. government programs have endangered funding, so they may not be reliable sources of income. A reverse mortgage can supplement a senior citizen’s income. The amount depends on the homeowner’s age, equity of the house, interest rate on the loan, closing fees, and a few other factors.

One very common misconception about the reverse mortgage is that the bank eventually takes ownership of your house. This is not true! The deed remains in your name throughout the entire term of the process. Note that there is interest on the loan payments, but it is deferred until the loan is repaid.

The homeowner can remain living in the house during the entire term of the reverse mortgage. The loan becomes due when the homeowner moves out, or becomes deceased. At those times, the survivors/heirs can repay the loan themselves if they want to keep the house. (Repayment can also take place by selling the home to repay the loan plus the interest in full. The money paid to the homeowner as mortgage payments must be repaid to the lender when the loan becomes due.)

These mortgages can provide much needed financial support during retirement. It is a time when medical costs are likely to increase, as well as unexpected costs can creep up. Use a reverse mortgage to help yourself to gain the financial security in retirement that you worked so hard to achieve.

If you come across a website one day and wish you had something similar, or even the same site, you’ll need to do some serious thinking about what you need to do in terms of domain registration and webhosting. Even those who want to have one of those blog sites that everyone is going crazy over, you’ll need special accommodations for your site.

Even if you’ve played around with free web space from one of the many providers of these free services, you are still restricted to having a sub domain on their server. Real domain names need to be registered with a company. This will get you one of those .com (commercial) extensions on your unique web address or any other type of extension you please. You can easily find the domain you want with their search tools and are even offered alternatives if your requested domain is already taken.

Webhosting is simply having the service to store, edit and display your files for your website. This is usually used to store images, videos and all of the text and coding of your website. You can also have special options available like high data transfers and special frameworks for bulletin board style forums.

Webhosting and domains work together to truly personalize your website along with keeping your site in order. You can even place ads on your site that pay you for displaying them, that is not available with any free service (at least not without breaking their usage terms)!

Companies that offer one of these services often offer another. This is usually done in bundled deals and can save you some money. Not all bundled services are the best though. You might want to do some research about other companies and what they offer in terms of service and customer satisfaction. That way you can get the best services even if you have to pay a little extra.

Everyone benefits from having expanded services as well as registered domain names. Many different types of coding languages for websites today require you to have your domain and webhosting linked so they work correctly. It also helps to keep everything organized and private, or public if you so choose.

Closing Comments

Websites will require many different services to look professional and have good quality service. Free web space providers often offer you some services but they are not as reliable and secure as paid services for domain name registration and webhosting services.

Trading stocks online couldn’t be more critical right now for inves-tors of any size. I’m using all the information available at my fin-gertips to decide the future of my portfolio, just like an stock broker or online options broker.

The first thing to do is to pick the sector. I think might ride out all the market ups and downs and have some degree of value left when it is all said and done.

I’m taking a really close look at utility stocks. I’m looking at them globally, but my focus will be in the United States primarily. That’s where the biggest allocation of money for that sector is going to go.

I’m a little worried about utility companies that have the most exposure –i.e., the biggest market– in the northeast and mid-west of the United States. While a bitter winter might drive some of the earning up for utilities there, the chill of the economic downturn could change any positive results to the downside.

My first way to review the companies I was investigating was to look at the Price Earnings Ratio (P/E ratio).

Then, if that was acceptable, I tried using a different metric. I looked a Cash Flow Analysis.

There are a couple of ways to do this. This should be on the first page now of any online stock trading web site.

First, cash is very important. That may sound like an obvious state-ment, as cash even within your household, is very important. But this is — or was– a world that revolves around the free flow of credit. Now, with the credit markets being stretched, it is [/spin]very|extremely[/spin] important to know the cash position of any utility that I may be considering.

One way to do a Cash Flow Analysis is to determine the Price to Cash Flow.

Basically, a company’s cash flow is the net income with depreciation and amortization charges added back in. Why add these expenses back in? Because they don’t actually represent true cash pay outs.

Therefore, the actual cash position is higher than what the net on hand would suggest. Divide the price of the stock by cash flow per share, add the expenses back in, and then you have a good idea of strength of the company.

Another way of calculating Cash Flow Analysis is to examine Free Cash Flow. This technique takes the process further in that one-time expenses are added back in. These can include capital expenses, dividend payments, and other non recurring charges.

This is the basis for my examination of utility stocks. The [spin]good|nice[/spin thing is that many web sites will have a calculator for this, or state this. So all you have to do is pay attention.

A problem with penny stocks is that newbie traders may lose a lot of money. Although it still is a great way for beginner traders to get a feel for the stock market. Penny stocks are extremely cheap compared to other stocks and sell for much less.

I found this program on the internet that claims to be able to help you trade the market with precision. I read the sales page and I wasn’t buying into this. I was still a skeptic of this system.

After further investigation I found a program that I think will be helpful for beginner traders called doubling stocks. Many experts still often lose trades in the stock market. Luckily, 2 “geeks” have programmed a robot to automatically pick fresh stocks that often increase dramatically within a few days after it is picked.

The program is called doubling stocks, and it is a penny stock newsletter. The stocks are picked out from a highly advanced robot code-named “Marl”. The robot analyzes the market for signals that a stock is ready to explode. When it sees one of these stocks you receive the stock pick via email.

It has also created 86 millionaires and 13 multi millionaires just from it’s stock picks. You first you sign up to the doubling stocks newsletter program. Next, analyzed stock picks will be delivered directly to your email address from the bot, simple!

This revolutionary program has potential to be extremely profitable for newbie traders and professional traders alike. After I have used Marl for 2 months I have found that 94% of it’s stock picks have been winners. I am extremely impressed with this system.

You will never come across a perfect trading course, because no one can predict the future. However, if you use tools and indicators your trading experience should be much more smooth. Be sure you have full knowledge on how to place trades before opening a live account.

Always be prepared to lose when you trade in the stock market. Never spent more than you can afford. Also, be sure you have full knowledge of how the market works before you open a real trading account. While trading stocks can make you a lot of money, it also can lose you a lot of money!

To sum it all up, the stock newsletter is great for any penny stock trader. It is always nerve-wrecking waiting for the pick to come into my gMail account. I am extremely pleased that I have discovered this special way of trading the market.

If you’re looking for a great way to make some extra money from home, one of the ways you can do this is by something known as “Forex trading.” Forex trading stands for “foreign exchange trading,” and it means that you buy and sell foreign exchange currency so as to turn a profit. However, is this really a good way to make money?

The thing is, foreign exchange rates fluctuate a lot. As one example, the US dollar might be worth $1.10 Canadian one day, while the next day, it’s worth $1.12 Canadian. If you can accurately predict how currencies are going to move and buy in and out of these currencies properly, you may just make yourself a lot of money.

Which currencies should you buy and sell, then? That’s really quite a complicated question to answer, because the Forex market itself is complicated, too. Currencies increase and decrease in value quite rapidly. One of the reasons they do so is that as an example, they might go up and down with the price of oil. The Canadian dollar is a good example of this. Canada is a large oil exporter, so that when oil prices drop, the demand for Canadian dollars goes down and the Canadian dollar itself goes down accordingly in value. There are many things that affect currency values in the Forex (foreign exchange) market; this is just one example of them.

You can do a lot of research about Forex trading, but just the sheer volume of information can knock you for a loop. Today, though, you can turn a profit in Forex trading without having to do a lot of research.

There are a number of software programs that have been designed to spot trends and signals in the forex markets in order to generate profitable trades. There are a number of professional traders that have developed their own software with the help of mathematicians and computer programmers. These software programs use realtime data from the foreign exchange markets in order to spot patterns and let you know when the “time is ripe” to jump on a trade. It’s remarkable the amount of work that goes into these programs and the results they can generate.

The majority of people that are earning an extra income trading foreign exchange use a software of this type, typically known as a “forex robot”. There’s a lot of these programs out there, so it’s important to keep a few things in mind before using any of them.

First, the program you choose should have a “demo” feature. This means you can try the program out without risking any money of your own. If you do this, you can try the system first to see if it works, to see if it’s easy to use, and to see if you actually make money with it.

Second, keep an eye on the pricetag. There are a number of software programs that cost thousands and thousands of dollars! For the most part, these programs are in the business of ripping people off. That’s not to say the really expensive ones aren’t any good, but there is no sense in spending that much especially at the start. For less than $100 you can find reputable programs that have been proven to generate remarkable profits.

Lastly, look for a money back guarantee. The companies that produce reputable programs aren’t afraid to back up their softwares with a guarantee. They know they work so providing a guarantee makes good business sense.

If you’ve been looking for a way to make some extra money, take a look at foreign exchange trading to see if it’s something you might want to do. It’s a good and exciting way to make some extra money online if it’s something you’re interested in.

Just about all the pundits have been wrong. I’ve been following some of them even way before I started online stock trading and options trading. None of them called this.

A very few did say that they thought that the sub prime lending would have consequences, but they did not forecast in what manner. They mostly said that it would affect a few banks, but never did they say the entire system would melt down.

It’s ironic that almost twenty years ago, in the late 1980’s, that there were a load of books and financial gurus who predicted the next Black Tuesday and Great Depression, and of course when that didn’t happen, they fell out of favor.

The Panic of 1987, which drove stocks down then more than 500 points, was a huge percentage point drop, but now drops like that are happening daily.

Of course, the banking and finance system has not quite melted down. Nobody really knows how bad it is.

Yesterday, Hank Paulson, forced some of the largest banks to sell stock to the federal government. Some of the banks objected, like Wells Fargo, as they were not in trouble, had a strong balance sheet, and did not want the federal government owning such a large voting block of stock. There were obviously some shotgun weddings.

None of this is restoring confidence. Terrible news continues to flow in across the world. Yesterday the bad news came from Switzerland. Both large investment banks there, Credit Suisse and USB, have been nationalized.

This is Switzerland — home of the Swiss bank! These banks survived the Great Depression and World War II. Now they’ve been done in by a bunch of lower income Americans and the banks and the politicians that set off this mess.

I’m not sure what can be done. If trading is halted on the exchanges, it would probably only be a break in the massacre.

If the government got out of the way, the markets would totally collapse, which may happen anyway. If that happens, real wealth will be lost, but others will step in to buy. There is money out there — waiting.

Today and tomorrow will be fascinating days, to say the least. If the market goes below 8000, then we may see another rush to sell, people moving out of mutual funds and into cash, and people and institutions stashing the money in the mattress, so to speak.

Each day is something new. I wish it weren’t. Being my own stock broker certainly presents me with some challenging times.

Hillary returned at the invitation of Sarah and John of our stock trading group. She was planning to talk about a number of things, including the Investors Bill of Rights. Hillary had worked for a brokerage firm and had agreed to work to mentor our online stock trading club.

Our assignments were to really check out our brokerage firm and make sure that we could obtain information on the various components of the Investor Bill of Rights.

Not much could be more important for online stock trading or trading options.

The next meeting we had a lot of sharing of information to do.

There were a couple in our group, including John, the president of our club, who found out that they has less than stellar information about their firms. Sarah, the vice president of the club, had a much better profile of her company.

My company was really good and adhered to all the suggestions of the Investor Bill of Rights.

Hillary’s talk at our last meeting was about preserving the capi-tal we needed to have to sustain our lifestyles.

She advised us that really no matter what we do in today’s market it is all speculative. Anyone who says they know for certain what the markets will do is being very foolish. We are in unfamiliar waters, she said, as far as investing goes. When the central bankers, Wall Street wizards and United States Treasury cannot even figure out what’s happening, the likelihood that the small individual investor will call it right is not great.

What was that ancient Chinese saying? May you live in interesting times? That was not meant as a positive, Hillary said. She left with a warning to be cautious in any investing today, as the rules seem to be changing daily.

When Hillary left you could have heard a pin drop around our table. We knew there was value in the market; we just had to be sure that we could determine it.
